| Rescuing a Miniature Schnauzer |
If you're looking to acquire a Miniature Schnauzer, carefully consider adopting one that needs a home. Older dogs adapt well to new homes because the main ingredients to making dogs happy are love, food and attention. |
| Rescue organizations have dedicated volunteers who attempt to place dogs who have lost their homes, more frequently than not, at no fault of their own. Their owners, for various reasons such as a move, divorce or death, are no longer able to keep them. All of these dogs can be placed through rescue. |
| Rescuers are all volunteers, and many have full time jobs and families. Most do their rescue work out of their homes, and do not have kennel set-ups. They are limited by law as to how many dogs they can foster. These volunteers are willing to give so much time and energy out of the goodness of their hearts because they love the dogs so much. |
| When dogs come into rescue they are evaluated for temperament and health. They are groomed, vaccinated, and spayed or neutered if necessary before they are placed in a new home. In order to ensure the best possible match between dog, owner and home environment, those wishing to adopt a dog are asked to complete an Adoption Questionnaire. |
| Most rescue groups require an adoption donation to cover the costs of getting the dog ready for its new home. The donation also allows them take care of other dogs coming into rescue. |
| Surrendering a Miniature Schnauzer |
| If you need to surrender a dog to rescue, please give some advance notice if possible. It's difficult for a rescuer to take a dog the day that you call. Before your dog is surrendered, it should be current with its vaccinations. This is not only to protect your dog. Dogs, like humans, can be carriers of a disease that they do not have themselves. If not vaccinated properly, your dog could put other foster dogs as well as dogs owned by the volunteer rescuer at risk. |
| When you call to surrender a dog, you will be asked to complete a Pet Profile form. Be honest about why you are surrendering it. If the dog is not housebroken, is aggressive or destructive, barks constantly, is not good with other pets or children, or has other issues, please tell the rescue volunteer. This information is necessary to properly place your dog, and it will be very helpful to know it sooner rather than later. |
| Unless you have a dog that bites, do not fear that your dog will be rejected by rescue because of issues such as those listed above. There are generous, loving people who are willing even to adopt a "special needs" dog when the occasion arises. |
